Sara Kennedy

Teacher

Hello! My name is Sara Kennedy and Early Childhood is my passion!  I was born and raised in Rockford, IL but headed west for warmer weather during my college years. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Studies and a Master’s in Teaching and Teacher Education, both at the University of Arizona. From there I moved to California and started teaching Kindergarten.  I also taught Kindergarten once I moved here to Florida.

As for my family, my husband and I have 3 children, who have all attended UCELC.  We absolutely love the Christian, family-like environment this school provides, and we attend the church, as well.

Along with teaching here at UCELC, I am also a professor at Kaplan University, where I teach Early Childhood courses online.  I also earned a Graduate Certificate in Literacy and Language Teaching K-6 from Kaplan. I have enjoyed preparing others for Early Childhood careers and am so excited to be back in the physical classroom setting, as well!  My philosophy of teaching is based on creating a student-centered environment in which children feel safe and valued and in which they enjoy the process of learning through play. I look forward to all that God has in store for me working at UCELC!

My husband and I are from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and moved to Oviedo in 2000. We have three teenage children. I was fortunate to be able to be a stay-at-home mom for several years to nurture them and watch them grow.

I have had the privilege of working with special needs and preschool children and have taught 3rd grade Faith Formation classes. I am thrilled to be part of this amazing team of teachers at UCELC. I am thankful for the opportunity to be working in a loving, nurturing Christian environment where children learn and experience new challenges that will help build their confidence while they play. I love my job. Every day is different. I’m excited to learn and explore with your children this year! I believe I’m where I need to be according to God’s plan.

I was raised in East Orlando and now live in the area with my husband and three children. My family attends The Five service at University Carillon and we have had such an amazing experience with UCELC, I’m very excited to have the opportunity to be part of team.

During high school I worked part time at a child care center then left to attend college in Lakeland, FL. I earned a degree in Music Management from Florida Southern College. After graduating I held office management positions. I spent some time at Huntington Learning Center managing and tutoring. After my second child was born I decided to become a stay at home mom and pursue an MBA, I graduated for a second time from Florida Southern College in 2012. I always felt most fulfilled in my jobs working with children and feel blessed to be able to share that with the kids at UCELC.

I was born and raised in Oviedo, FL where I grew up attending UCUMC with my family. Since 2011, I have been working with the UCUMC Children's Ministry team and recently was promoted to the Clubhouse Coordinator. I previously received my AA degree in Elementary Education from Seminole State College. Currently, I attend the University of Central of Florida and will earn my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. As the youngest of four girls, I enjoy hanging out with my family and my niece. As a Florida girl, I'm a Disney enthusiast and visit the parks on a weekly basis. I've always had a passion for teaching young children, and look forward to starting this new journey at UCELC!
